Tips for Hanging Wall Art the Right Way
Framed artwork is more than a simple decorative element. It completes the look of a room, adds personality and enhances the furniture and decoration around it. However, even the most beautiful piece of art can lose its visual impact when placed in the wrong position or at the wrong height.
The Golden Rule of Proportion
Before deciding where to hang a piece of artwork, consider the furniture beneath it. Whether it is a sofa, sideboard, console table or bed, the artwork or arrangement should ideally measure approximately two-thirds to three-quarters of the furniture’s width. This creates a harmonious balance and gives the space a more polished and styled appearance.

The Right Distance from Furniture
One of the most common decorating mistakes is hanging artwork too high. When placing a picture above a sofa or console table, leave approximately 15 to 20 centimeters between the top of the furniture and the bottom edge of the frame. This creates a visual connection between the two elements, making the overall arrangement feel cohesive and balanced.

Decorating Without Drilling Holes
If you live in a rented property or simply prefer not to drill holes in your walls, there are several practical alternatives. Adhesive picture-hanging strips are ideal for small and medium-sized frames, provided they are suitable for the frame’s weight and wall surface. Picture-hanging rail systems are another solution for larger arrangements, allowing you to rearrange your artwork without repeatedly damaging the walls or the panels.

Create a Gallery Wall
A carefully arranged collection of framed artwork can transform an empty wall into a beautiful focal point. Start by positioning the largest pieces in the centre and arrange the remaining frames around it, maintaining consistent spacing amongst them.
Although the artwork and frame sizes may be different, incorporating a common element, such as matching frame colors or a coordinated color palette, helps create a more harmonious and visually balanced composition.

Complete Your Interior with Balance
Wall art works better when it complements the room rather than overwhelming it. Choose pieces that are reflecting the style of your furniture and coordinate with the room’s color palette, leaving enough negative space around each arrangement to allow the artwork stand out.
With thoughtful placement and the right proportions, your living room, dining area or bedroom can have a distinctive character, a sense of balance and a beautifully cohesive interior design.
